Is 100% Kona Coffee better or worse for you than regular coffee?
Q : I want to know if there is any HARD evidence that 100% Kona Coffee is any better for you or worse for you in ANY way than regular coffee. It's premium and grown better yes yes, but nutrition-wise or boost-wise (by boost I mean awakening, refreshing, mood-enhancing) is it any better or worse than regular?A : Fresh roasted Kona tastes excellent so from a health stand point you are in a much better mood and your day is set for achievement. As compared to canned grocery store coffees in which the taste is depressing and it gives you a sour stomach.
From a stomach stand point any fresh roasted coffee is easier on your stomach than stale can coffees for acid. Also Kona is a smoother richer coffee then say Sumatran (both are great though).
Personal note when I started drinking coffee I did the FOlgers thing and had acid problems big time. Now that I drink only fresh roast I have no acid issues due to coffee (Little Ceasers is a different story altogether).
Other than that your question is flawed in that the assumption that "regular coffee" is worth drinking in the first place, what is regular coffee anyway? Before the 19th century commercially roasted coffee was uncommon and for the upper class. If you wanted coffee you bought the green beans and roasted it yourself. In MY mind that makes home roasted coffee the standard of regular coffee and better for you all the way around anyway.
Final answer, there is no hard evidence in coffee and if there is it will be disputed later...
How does Maui coffee compare to Kona coffee?
Q : I'm in Hawaii and I noticed that Maui coffee is significantly cheaper than Kona coffee.
A : twiulus is right, the competition for Kona coffee is pretty fierce. Years and years of proud culture goes into growing pure Kona coffee. The "Kona coffee" belt on the big island is where you'll find prime growing conditions, so farms are close together to get a piece of great land.
Kona blends are a little smoother and not as expensive. 100% pure Kona is definitely going to be more expensive, but you get what you pay for. Make sure to really confirm the coffee is 100% Kona, not a blend, if you're going for the real thing.
There are few farms that have been around for a long time, and have established a reputation to be top of the line, environmentally friendly Kona coffee growers. You can even go on farm-tours!
How much would Starbucks need to charge if they started using pure Kona (Hawaiian) coffee and/or Jamaican?
Q : Blue Mountain coffee? Currently these are the most expensive coffees I know of.
A : It could not be done as there is not enough supply of these coffees for the present quantity of beans that Starbucks uses.
(I'm assuming using those beans exclusively).
Where is a good place to buy Kona coffee seeds?
Q : Seedrack.com sells the seeds, but i heard they sell the seeds in very poor condition. Many say they can't get them to germinate. Please show me a good website to buy Kona coffee seeds from.
A : I see them on ebay and amazon. Not living in a tropical country, where coffee grows, I don't know much about seed quality for coffee plants.
I do know that if you want a coffee plant as a houseplant, you can buy them in greenhouses and garden stores. I also know that growing them as a potted houseplant will not give you good results in getting coffee out of them. The environment makes ALL the difference. So growing a Kona coffee plant as a houseplant will disappoint you if you are expecting to harvest great coffee beans from it.
