Can you buy Keurig coffee pods or k-cups with food stamps?

Can you buy Keurig coffee pods or k-cups with food stamps?

Q : I know it sounds wasteful, but I don't have the $ to buy a nice present for someone and this seems like a decent gift for someone who has everything.
Someone said if you can eat it or drink it that you can use your food stamps, but I was sick once and tried to get some herbal tea and it wouldn't let me. Thanks in advance for your HELPFUL responses please!
A : I have never tried these on EBT - but I do know that in order for the register to talley an item under EBT(food stamps) it must have a nutritional label on the item. Supplemental labels (such as energy drinks, your tea and energy bars) will not fall under EBT. I just looked at the two different brand of K-Cups that I have currently and neither have a nutritional label. So, I would with some degree of certainty say no. Just an FYI also, most of the "gift sets" we see so often this time of year will not work either, even with a nutritional label because per DSS, they contain more non-food items (ie cups, baskets and tins) than food and that labeling prohibits their purchase with food stamps. I did find out quite by accident that the Holly Farms gift sausages in just a box would go - fully expected to pay for one last year and it went through. Understand hard times and the desire to still do for others, never thought I would be on this road. I suggested to others to go to the dollar store in your area, get mugs, bowls etc. and mine has the wrap with bows in sets of 2 for very low cost. Then pick up pop-corn, candy bars, fruit, and many other ideas out there for a snack package and make something yourself.

Now, a lot of the "flavored" instant coffees do have the proper labels and may be another option.
Good luck and hope things are better for us all soon.
